2018 Volvo XC90 vs 2018 Audi Q7

Proudly Serving Chamblee, GA

American consumers shopping for a midsize luxury SUV can choose from almost two dozen models. Two of the most impressive are the 2018 Volvo XC90 and the Audi Q7. If these vehicles are on your wish list, here's what you need to know about how they compare to one another.

Interior Space

The Volvo XC90 has more passenger and cargo space than the Q7, which makes it an excellent choice for road trippers and commuters alike. It's available as either a two-row or three-row SUV, so it's versatile as well. If you choose the three-row version, you'll enjoy a standard sliding and reclining second row. Adults might find the third row of the Audi a bit too cramped for comfort.

Three-row versions of the Volvo have almost 86 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded down, compared to 71.6 cubic feet in the Audi.

Fuel Economy

If you want to save at the pump, opt for the XC90. It comes with either a 250-horsepower turbo-four that gets 22/29 city/highway mpg* or a 360-hp version that's supercharged. The latter gets 20/27 city/highway miles per gallon. If you opt for the plug-in hybrid, it gets the equivalent of 62 mpg and provides 400 horsepower. It can travel up to 19 miles on a single charge.

Both Audi Q7 powertrains get an EPA-estimated 19/25 city/highway miles per gallon.

Safety Features

Volvo's commitment to safety is evident in the XC90. Every model is equipped with a full suite of high-tech driver assistance features including pedestrian and cyclist detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, road sign detection, adaptive cruise control, rearview camera, rear cross traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Audi Q7 comes standard with a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, and forward collision warning with automatic braking.
