Volvo's impressive line of SUVs includes several electrified options, including the XC60 and XC90 plug-in hybrid. Both of these models deliver a standout performance and offer an amazing selection of premium features. These models also have exciting individuality and important differences. Before selecting a specific model for your next purchase, what should you know about the XC60 and the XC90?
Performance
The 2025 XC60 offers both gas and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The plug-in hybrid option is the T8 AWD. It uses a turbo 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine along with an electric motor. Its all-electric range is 35 miles. The XC60 T8 AWD has all-wheel drive and an eight-speed auto transmission. The 2025 XC90 has two gas powertrains and a plug-in hybrid option called the T8. The T8 is engineered with a turbo four-cylinder engine and a rear-mounted electric motor. It can travel 32 miles on all-electric power.
Appearance
The XC60 plug-in hybrid is the smaller of these two vehicles. It shows off the brand's Scandinavian design language yet has a sporty side. Both the hood and roof are tapered while the sides display athletic definition. At the front end, the Thor's hammer headlights are mounted on their side, and the horizontal chrome accent running across the lower air vents highlights the linear theme. The small grille is styled with vertical bars and an angled crossbar that holds the logo.
The XC90 plug-in hybrid is a three-row model with a tall, flat roof and strong definition across the lower door panels. The rounded front end's design closely matches the XC60's. However, the rectangular grille and lower air vents are larger. In addition, the headlights are slightly curved.
Features
The XC60 T8 AWD is the only powertrain available with the top-of-the-line Polestar Engineered trim. This trim features a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 15 speakers, a heated steering wheel, heated seats in both rows, a head-up display, Nappa leather upholstery, a four-zone climate control system, Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors on all sides, a surround-view camera, a 9-inch infotainment system display screen, Apple CarPlay, and more.
The XC90 plug-in hybrid is available in several trim levels and comes with individual add-ons as well. Depending on your selection, this SUV may be outfitted with wool blend upholstery, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 19 speakers, massaging front seats, second-row captain's, a head-up display, a heated steering wheel, heated seats in the first two rows, a sunroof, Apple CarPlay, a four-zone auto climate control system, a navigation system, and more.
