The subcompact Volvo XC40 crossover SUV offers the upscale features and style that you expect from your next vehicle. Responsive and maneuverable, the XC40 offers a spirited driving experience. In 2026, the XC40 reintroduced its B4 powertrain to the options. All other aspects of the XC40 remain unchanged.

The B4 powertrain is a 2.0-liter, inline-four unit with mild-hybrid technology. It offers 194 horsepower with 221 pound-feet of torque. This is a front-wheel drive option. The turbo 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine is the other powertrain available, and it carries forward from the 2025 model year. This unit gives you 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It features all-wheel drive.

The engaging design of the 2026 Volvo XC40 is unchanged. It embraces Scandinavian styling with a contemporary, clean look. The design includes a curved front end with a flat hood and roof. The roof line transitions to a liftgate spoiler. Both the side windows and the rear are raked. The sides offer dark molding along the lower door panels and horizontal accentuation. The wheels have a fascination, an open-triangle spoke design. At the front, the Thor’s hammer LED headlights run horizontally, and the lower air inlets have a similar shape. The almost-rectangular grille is styled with Volvo’s sash-style design. Exterior features offered on the XC40 include up to 20-inch wheels, roof rails, LED foglights, auto-dimming side mirrors, adaptive headlights, and more.

The 2026 Volvo XC40 is available in three trim levels. These are the Core, Plus, and Ultra. The Core trim comes with a digital instrument cluster, an eight-speaker sound system, driver’s memory settings, a Google-based infotainment system with a 9-inch display screen, Apple CarPlay, a wireless charging pad, forward collision mitigation, a dual-zone auto climate control system, rear parking sensors, a blind-spot warning system, and lane keeping assistance. The Plus trim level adds leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, an air purification system, a universal garage door opener, front parking sensors, a surround-view camera, and a trunk partition. The Ultra builds on these features with a Harman Kardon premium sound system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control.
