Unless you're the super-est of super fans, there's a good chance you don't know everything about Volvo history, recent and long past. Even for us here at Dyer & Dyer Volvo, your friendly car dealer in Chamblee, GA serving the greater Atlanta area, we talk about new and used Volvo vehicles all day, nearly every day, and we still discover new facts constantly! Well, now the automaker has made finding little tidbits about their past easier, with the introduction of the #VolvoFact hashtag on Facebook.
What is #VolvoFact? Well, if you go on Facebook and search for that, you'll find a multitude of, you guessed it, facts about Volvo. While they're certainly interesting on their own, we can think of a few good situations where these would come in handy. For example, you're at a party and the conversation has died down a bit. You know a few of your fellow party-goers are car fans; when you ask them whether or not they knew that the first Volvo hit the road in 1922, it could certainly elicit some reactions from the auto junkies in the group! But that's an easy one.
Here's a few more facts we found fascinating and slightly more obscure:
- Volvo vehicles are 85% recyclable
- The first Volvo sports car was the P1800 and it debuted in 1961
- The P1800 was also driven by Roger Moore playing the character "Simon Templar" in the T.V. series The Saint
- In 1991, the first side impact protection system was introduced by Volvo
- The XC60 SUVs get into fewer low-speed collisions than competitor SUVs, thanks to the City Safety system
And that's just a sampling. Check the Volvo Cars US Facebook page for even more. Do you have a Volvo fact that we didn't list here that blew your mind? Let us know in the comments below!
