Here at Dyer & Dyer Volvo, located in Chamblee, GA and serving the greater Atlanta area, our middle name is practically "safety." When it comes to keeping you and your family protected, a new Volvo is the best place to turn, and the technology for such safety is evolving more and more. In fact, the state of its technology at the moment has earned it quite the award over at the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles Conference in Seoul, South Korea: the 2013 Global NCAP Innovation Award.
Giving a presentation on the outstanding achievements of Volvo's pedestrian protection was Prof. Lotta Jakobsson, Senior Technical Specialist Safety at Volvo Cars Safety Centre. The protection on display was the Pedestrian Airbag Technology and Pedestrian Detection. The features protect those on the outside of the vehicle in such an unfortunate event as a collision with a pedestrian.
With the vehicle's ability to detect a pedestrian within a certain distance and apply the brakes independently of the driver, a Volvo vehicle with this technology could potentially completely avoid an accident that would have otherwise occurred. In the case of the collision still happening, airbags places strategically on the exterior of the vehicle are positioned the best predict the location of the pedestrian's collision, significantly softening the blow and absorbing the energy of impact.
While this technology is currently only on the Volvo V40, which is not currently available in the United States, it won't be long before all Volvo vehicles employ these safety features. Stay tuned to our blog for all the details as it makes its way over to our side of the pond in the future.
