Car commercials are always trying to impress buyers with flashy graphics, impressive turns, and in-your-face statistics. Volvo took the opposite approach in one of its latest commercials, and given its viral popularity, it made the right decision with its marketing strategy.
The ad starts out with a close-up look at the serene face of stuntman Jean-Claude Van Damme. At first, it is unclear the tremendous feat that he is accomplishing, but as the camera pans back, the viewer sees that Van Damme is in fact standing on two different trucks, one foot on each cabin. The trucks are reversing, and they slowly move apart. Van Damme is not phased and completes what is easily the most epic split to ever be shot on film.
The stunt was performed to show off the directional stability and precision of Volvo Dynamic Steering. It's a revolutionary technology that is being pioneered by the Scandinavian automaker, and makes the car company's trucks easier than ever to drive.
