At the Frankfurt Auto Show last month, our favorite Scandinavian automaker showed off a concept that, like nearly all concept vehicle, we assumed would never reach production. Despite this, the car got rave reviews during the show for its raw power and gorgeous style.

The feedback was so positive, however, that Volvo is reconsidering their decision to keep it out of production. The brand's board of directors have since decided instead that it will receive a limited run, handled by Italian coachbuilder Bertone.

Comparable to German luxury and performance vehicles, the aptly named Volvo Concept Coupe was styled after the classic P1800. A fierce front end flows into a sleek body with bold creases and lines, radiating pure muscle. But it's bark is definitely just as strong as its bite.

Utilizing hybrid architecture, we find that under the hood roars a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine powering the front wheels and an electric motor powering the rear. This pairing can explode with 400 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of neck-snapping torque.

The production model will likely be tweaked to something milder though. Perhaps a somewhat weaker plug-in hybrid setup will be used, or just a traditional gasoline-powered engine. For now, we'll just have to wait and see. Keep tuned in to our blog for more details on the Concept Coupe as they come. Hopefully, we'll be seeing a name change for it in the near future too.
