In a national tragedy of sorts, a man in Sweden awoke one morning to find that his 1961 Volvo P1800 was stolen. But this isn't just any P1800, and he isn't just any owner; it was, in fact, the very first production P1800 and he is Mats Eriksson, vice president of the Swedish P1800 Club. The classic two-door coupe was not only prized by the owner but also by the country, which happens to be Volvo's home.

It was stolen sometime between August 21st and 22nd, but by who or whom is still unknown. The vehicle, which was fully restored and as beautiful as ever, was announced missing and a search began by Larmtjänst AB, a non-profit that deals with vehicle crimes in Sweden. Any and all information was appreciated and, finally, the vehicle was found.

On September 4th, the model was spotted by a passing pedestrian in Hägerstensvägen, a municipality of Stockholm. Abandoned on the street and hidden under a tarp, the citizen immediately phoned Larmtjänst AB and told them he'd found the P1800. With its all-red exterior, all-white interior, custom wheel coverings, and ACZ 780 license plates, there was no doubt they'd found the real thing.

Mr. Eriksson was delighted to have it returned to his possession. Other than a broken ignition and a dirtied interior, the vehicle was in one piece; Mats is confident that it can be fixed up good as new, just like before. While no suspects have been apprehended, it's still nice to see that this story has a happy ending.
