The multiple-award winning Volvo XC90 marked a strong comeback for the Swedish automaker last year. For 2016, the XC90 is going green, adding a "T8" plug-in hybrid model to its two gasoline-powered siblings, the T4, and T6. Auto critic Tom Voelk recently reviewed the XC90 for The New York Times. Click "play" in the video clip below to watch his full report.

The XC90 T8 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged supercharged inline four-cylinder engine paired with a large lithium-ion battery to generate 400 total horsepower. The XC90 T8 has a 14-mile pure electric range. Starting with a full battery and a heavy foot, the Times Voelk got about 30 miles per gallon on a 75-mile mixed-driving loop. The government rates this powertrain at 53 MPGe, miles per gallon equivalent, or 25 m.p.g. gasoline-only using specified premium fuel.
