Volvo Cars says that every vehicle it launches from 2019 will have an electric motor under its hood, signaling the end of cars that only house an internal combustion engine for the brand.
President and chief executive, Håkan Samuelsson, said in a press release that the change is for the customer because there is an increasing demand for electrified vehicles.
"You can now pick and choose whichever electrified Volvo you wish," he said.
Volvo Cars plans to introduce a collection of electrified cruisers across its model range and totally embrace fully electric, plug-in hybrid cars and mild hybrid vehicles. Volvo said on its website that it would present five fully electric cars between 2019 and 2021. Three will be from Volvo and two will be high performance electrified vehicles from Polestar, Volvo Cars’ performance vehicle counterpart. More details will be announced at a later date.
