The Volvo XC40 is an SUV that is relatively new to the automotive market. Introduced in 2017, the XC40 classifies as a compact luxury crossover SUV and competes alongside models like the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. Since its debut, the Volvo XC40 has taken the award as the "European Car of the Year" from the Geneva Motor Show. The Volvo XC60 is older than the Volvo XC40 but classifies as a compact luxury crossover SUV like the XC40. The Volvo XC60 has been in production since 2009 and is currently in its second generation. Two different engine platforms power the 2020 Volvo XC40. The 2020 XC40 T4 utilizes a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder engine that produces 187 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. The 2020 T5 also uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder engine, but the engine produces 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Volvo used three different engine layouts to power the 2020 Volvo XC60. The engine used in the XC60 T5 is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The 2020 T6 uses a twin-charged 2.0-liter engine that produces 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The hybrid T8 is powered by a hybrid engine that produces 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.


The 2020 Volvo XC40 and 2020 Volvo XC60 look similar, both with carefully-located chrome trim pieces and standard LED headlights. While both models are crafted with a sleek five-door design, the 2020 XC60 offers three rows of seating to occupants. The 2020 XC60 is also provided with a standard panoramic sunroof. The 2020 XC40 and 2020 XC60 both are available with several optional packages that aim to increase the comfort of the models.


While standard leather seats are no longer included with the 2020 Volvo XC40, there are many new standard features included on the model.
