Volvo's line of crossover SUVs includes the captivating XC40. This two-row, compact crossover SUV is packed with luxurious features and advanced technologies. In 2025, the Ultimate trim level becomes the Ultra trim level. The trim level lineup now includes the Core, Plus, and Ultimate. For drivers who want extra features in their XC40, a closer look at the differences between the Plus and Ultra is needed.
Performance
The 2025 Volvo XC40 has one powertrain. All trim levels feature a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that produces 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Every 2025 XC40 has standard all-wheel drive.
Appearance
The XC40 displays the contemporary design elements that the Scandinavian automaker is known for. The only difference you will find between the XC40 Plus and Ultra on the exterior is their features. The Plus gives you LED foglights, 19-inch wheels, roof rails, and auto-dimming side mirrors. The Ultra includes many of these features as well as 20-inch wheels and adaptive headlights. Well-defined side contouring, a tall roof, and a curved nose establish the XC40's design. The hood gracefully rolls toward the small grille, which carries the classic Volvo design. A Thor's hammer LED design runs across the headlights, mimicking this same shape in the air inlets.
Features
The Plus and Ultra trims have many of the same features. Some of these are a universal garage door opener, parking sensors at the front and rear, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, an air purifier, a surround-view camera, a blind-spot warning system, heated front seats, a 9-inch touch display screen, forward collision mitigation, a dual-zone auto climate control system, keyless entry, a keyless ignition, a digital instrument panel, driver's memory settings, wireless charging station and several other features. The XC40 Ultra also comes with Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise control, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
